The Alkammonia and POWER-UP  projects were presented in Romania during the 20th conference ‘’Progress in Cryogenics and Isotopes Separation’’ which was organised by The National Institute for Research and Development for Cryogenic and Isotopic Technologies – ICIT. The conference intended to be a framework for the exchange of ideas on key elements of scientific research, technological development and innovation in line with Romania’s National R&D Strategy for 2014-2020 and the new EU Framework Programme for R&D – HORIZON 2020. The conference has a section dedicated to hydrogen and fuel cells. The audiences raised many questions and showed a significant interest to know more about the demonstration projects which are taking place in Europe especially on a large scale such as the POWER-UP project (the world’s largest alkaline fuel cell project) and backup power systems such as ALKAMMONIA which is the first European system based on ammonia-fuelled alkaline fuel cells for remote power applications.

‘’It was very important to show the audiences, especially from Eastern Europe, the real applications of hydrogen and fuel cells that are NOW taking place in Europe in order to raise the interest of the decision makers to include the fuel cells and hydrogen technologies on their agenda’’ said Ioan IORDACHE, National Research and Development Institute for Cryogenics and Isotopic Technologies.
